ABOUT RECYCLEDAT

Who we are.

RecycleDAT is New Orleans' Mardi Gras recycling program, run by the nonprofit Grounds Krewe. Our “Recycle Dat! On The Route” stations collect glass, aluminum, plastic, and throws along the parade route so more of Carnival gets a second life instead of ending up in the landfill or the storm drains.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The job.

Route Crew members are the face of RecycleDAT on parade days. You'll keep our stations running, collect recyclables along the route, and talk with paradegoers about how and why to recycle. It's active, outdoor work in the middle of the celebration.

ON THE ROUTE

What you'll do.

  • Set up and break down recycling station equipment before and after parades
  • Walk the parade route to collect recyclables from paradegoers and the ground
  • Talk with paradegoers in a friendly, upbeat way about what can be recycled and where
  • Work with other crew members to change bags on recycling bins and keep stations clean and organized
  • Help sort and move collected materials so they can be weighed and tracked
  • Follow directions from station leads and stay in communication with the team throughout your shift
YOU

What we're looking for.

  • Comfortable talking with strangers and representing the program with a positive attitude
  • A team player who shows up on time and pitches in where needed
  • Proactive about spotting what needs to get done and taking care of it without being asked
  • Reliable for scheduled parade shifts, including weekends and one weekday
  • Interest in the environment, New Orleans, or Mardi Gras culture is a plus. No experience necessary.
THE WORK

Physical requirements.

  • Able to stand and walk for long periods, often on uneven streets and in crowds
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Able to bend, reach, and handle bags and bins repeatedly
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold and rain
THE FINE PRINT

Details.

  • Pay: $20/hour; $25/hour for returning crew members
  • Tentative program dates: Saturday, Jan. 30; Sunday, Jan. 31; Thursday, Feb. 4; Saturday, Feb. 6; and Sunday, Feb. 7, 2027. Dates are subject to change based on the final program schedule.
  • Shifts: Generally 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with exact times based on your assigned station location
  • Training: Provided before the season starts
